I have been using Gee's Electric, for some time now. Recently a client of mine had a home for sale, and the home inspector found some problems. Gee's found more problems. The house was not grounded properly, and other things. He sat with the homeowner, and discussed the consequences the future homeowner would encounter. My client agreed to make the changes at their expense, seeing that it was the right thing to do. Gee's made us both look good.

Outlet Protection
Use child proof caps in unused portions of the outlet(s). Do not overload with multiple power strips and cords. Use proper GFCI protection as listed above. Make sure outlets and switches have proper cover plates.

Extension Cords
I know it’s impossible to do away with extension cords, but when you have one plugged into another, it is a potential for a fire hazard. Additional outlet(s) or a good power strip (surge protected) will solve that problem. Do not use multiple power strips in one location. When purchasing a power strip read what its capabilities are. When disconnecting cords, pull the plug rather than the cord itself. Old cords should be replaced. Check your cords, if they feel hot replace it, preferably one with a stronger power rating.

Qualified Experts
I know that that handy person down the street puts up light fixtures and other electrical applications, and there are even books on how to do it yourself, no disrespect to handy men or you. But the only safe way to do electrical work is when it is done 100 percent by code, and performed by a licensed and insured electrician. You don’t know how many times an electrician is called in to repair problems caused by improper work. Don’t give reason to chance. Protect yourself, your home, and your loved ones. Take the time to be safe.

Light Bulbs
Light fixtures are rated to use specific types of bulbs and wattages. If a fixture says 60 watts max, it’s for a reason. Sure it’s brighter with a 100 watt bulb, but over the course of time, it could cause a fire hazard. If you have recessed lights and do not know what type bulbs to use, you can look inside the fixture. There's a list of the type of bulbs to match the trim. If uncertain, call an electrician.
